Temps de Flors: a festival with history
Girona
Temps de Flors began in 1954, when a group of young entrepreneurs organized the
first Provincial Flower Exhibition Contest in the Municipal Theatre’s
lounge. The enthusiastic response from visitors turned this initiative into a
long-standing tradition that has grown into Girona’s major international
festival, attracting people from all over the world.
Over the years, the event expanded both in scale and public involvement. After quickly outgrowing its first venue, it moved to the Pergamens Hall of the Public Library, then to the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, and later to the convent and cloister of Sant Domènec. Eventually, it spread throughout the Old Town, filling courtyards, gardens, and iconic spaces such as Plaça dels Jurats, the Cathedral cloister, and the gardens of Plaça de Narcís Figueras.
A
city-driven evolution
For more
than six decades, figures such as Rosa Maria Labayen, David Marca, and Josep
Tarrés preserved the spirit of this event, turning it into one of Girona’s most
iconic traditions.
Watercolour
exhibition
The
Association of Watercolourists of Girona and surrounding areas brings together
a wide range of artists, many of them highly respected, dedicated to promoting
watercolour painting.
Over the
years, they have organized various initiatives, including masterclasses —such
as the one led by painter Josep Martínez Lozano at the former Fontana d’Or— and
annual participation in the prestigious Pinzell d’Or award. Their presence adds
a refined and sensitive artistic dimension to the festival.
Location: Cambra de la Propietat Urbana de Girona
As part of
Temps de Flors, Saló XV, a well-known hair salon in the city, becomes a unique
artistic space hosting an exhibition by international artists Yermine
Richardson and Ladislas Chachignot.
Centered on flowers and nature, this exhibition transforms an everyday setting into an intimate and evocative artistic experience. A chance to enjoy art in a close and accessible environment, where beauty and creativity blend with the spirit of the festival.
