COME WITH
US TO MONTSERRAT!
First we'll head for Monistrol de Montserrat, where you'll find the rack railway station (uphill journey included in the excursion), a way of accessing the religious enclosure that offers a spectacular view of the mountain setting.
Once we arrive, we will be greeted by the Basilica of Montserrat, known for housing the image of the Virgin of Montserrat, ‘La Moreneta’, (ENTRANCE NOT INCLUDED), an architectural work that combines Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Modernist styles, creating an eclectic space. Its interior, with a single nave and connected side chapels, stands out for its luminosity thanks to the restoration carried out between 1991 and 1996, which incorporated natural light.

UNDISPUTED SYMBOL OF CATALONIA
Imposing, majestic, magical, mystical, sacred, powerful... It is hard to find words to describe the mountain of Montserrat. We are talking about a unique rock formation in the world that unites nature, tradition, history, religion, sport, identity and culture.
It is also
part of the Catalan imaginary of several generations, acting as a link between
people of different ages.
THE MEANING OF ITS NAME
The word
Montserrat means ‘sawn mountain’. In fact, if we take a closer look and break
it down we can see that it comes from the words ‘mont’, which means mountain,
and ‘serrat’, which refers to the peculiar shape of the rocks that form it with
their peaks and cliffs. Together they remind us of the teeth of a large saw,
the everyday instrument used to cut wood.
A PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE AND SPIRITUALITY
If there is one thing that is characteristic of this site, it is its role as a pilgrimage destination. Every year thousands of believers, tourists and families visit it to venerate ‘La Moreneta’. (ENTRANCE FEE NOT INCLUDED)
